COLLEGE-COLLAGE OF MEMORIES

College is such an important part of growing up that it is sure to leave behind deep imprints in the road to self-discovery.

Some lucky ones, like Chetan Bhagat, write books on their college days (Five-Point Someone) and become rich and famous.

Not being Chetan Bhagat, however, I hope to write about my college memories in this blog. In bits and pieces, fragments and filaments, as is my wont.

Pritam, the very resourceful editor of the e-magazine Pentasect, very kindly allowed me to indulge in an all-expenses-paid nostalgia trip back to my college days in Presidency College of what-was-then-Calcutta. If you want to come along for the ride, do click here.

Great article. Hugely enjoyed. I went to Fergusson College in Pune in the late 60's, which has, or rather, then used to have , a typical traditional old college ethos, and I sensed some of the same in your article. Very evocative word/person pictures .

North Campus, New Delhi was the dream but due to personal family problems it never happened.

Great article. Brought some memories of college years.

And you have a way of weaving the words, drawing from memory and sealing the package with panache !!

Well written.

Ah, I long to have had an education like that. No, I take that back. You could make anyone long for any subject about which you choose to write.

Great article Sumidi....it is really great to be able to reminisce college memories, I relieve the hostel days everytime I speak/chat with a classmate .....I do need to bring up my past blog to pace to come up to my college days...
I am sure you can convert your memories to a much better novel than Chetan Bhagat...though I haven't read that one, the other more hyped novel of his "one Night at a Call center" left much to be desired....

Yes, it's a terrific memory piece, Sucharita. I went to a very different type of school, one that had been founded only ten years before I arrived, in fact, so it was quite a different experience. Perhaps the similarity is that though a university, the classes still tended to be very small, so I got to know many of my professors well, and the fact that I ended up living in the town I went to school in has only emphasized that.
